The Blues faced off against Shoreham FC for the second time this season, having previously defeating them 10-2 at home. Since that defeat, Shoreham had gone on a seven-game undefeated streak, setting the stage for a challenging rematch. Shoreham, hosting this time, opted for a full-sized pitch and goals, and strategically placed their formidable striker in the centre-back position to counter the Blue's attacking prowess.
As the match kicked off, the howling wind blew directly into the Blue's faces, making it tough to break the deadlock despite their dominant possession. After 20 minutes of relentless pressure, a brilliant combination play between Will and Fred on the left wing led to Alfie forcing a save from the Shoreham keeper. The ball seemed destined for a corner, but Fred, ever alert, managed to sneak a shot into the net from an almost impossible angle, putting the Blues ahead 1-0. This scoreline held until halftime.
The coaching team, confident in their setup, made no tactical changes for the second half. With the wind now supposedly in their favour, the Blues anticipated extending their lead. However, the wind unexpectedly shifted, blowing back into their faces once more. Undeterred, the Blues maintained their high press, and a wayward clearance fell to Isaac, who unleashed a stunning 30-yard strike that soared over the keeper and into the roof of the net, making it 2-0. The Blues were now in full flow. A smart header from Theo found Alfie in the box, who deftly looped the ball into the goal for a 3-0 lead. Shoreham, desperate to salvage the game, moved their striker back up front, but this only created more space for the Blues. Exploiting these gaps, Isaac timed his run perfectly to go one-on-one with the keeper, with Alfie sliding through a perfect ball for a 4-0 lead.
Despite their dominance, the Blues conceded a goal when a speculative shot from Shoreham caught the wind and looped over Oscar, hitting the underside of the crossbar. The score was now 4-1. The Blues, however, were not deterred. Fred, with a leap reminiscent of Ronaldo, narrowly missed a header from Isaac’s cross, but the crowd sensed another goal was imminent. Fred continued to dominate the left wing, delivering a pinpoint cross for Paddy to finesse into the bottom right corner, making it 5-1.
The sixth goal was a masterpiece, with Alfie finishing off an exceptional team move involving Fred, Theo, and Paddy, bringing the score to 6-1. In the final minutes, Shoreham threw everything at the Blues, but Will’s composed clearance led to Theo’s solo run down the right. Drawing the defender wide, Theo drove inside and, one-on-one with the keeper, sealed the game with a clinical finish, making it 7-1.
With this emphatic victory, the Blues extended their unbeaten run to seven games and increased their lead at the top of the table to five points at the halfway stage of the season. Players of the match went to both Will and Mylo, who were outstanding in what was arguably the team’s best performance of the season.
The coaching team is also thrilled to announce the permanent signing of our dynamic winger, Isaac! His athletic prowess has been a game-changer, allowing us to diversify our attacking strategies. This exciting addition bolsters our Blues squad even further.
