Despite the rain-soaked pitch, the U13 Blues kicked off their season with a victory. The challenging conditions made it tough to get their passing game going, but after hitting the woodwork twice in quick succession, they finally broke through in the 16th minute. Freddie was quick to capitalize on a poor back pass, slotting the ball past the helpless keeper. They maintained control for the rest of the half, leading 1-0 at the break.
Coach Christian praised the team during halftime, urging them to keep up the momentum. They responded brilliantly, winning a penalty within five minutes of the restart. Although the penalty was well-struck, the keeper managed to save it, only for the quick-footed Will to smash the rebound into the net, making it 2-0!
With ten minutes to go, a lapse in concentration and a slip allowed Lindfield’s dangerous striker to slot the ball into the bottom left corner, reducing the deficit to 2-1. Nervousness crept in as Lindfield enjoyed their best spell of the match, pinning the Blues in their half. But with the last kick of the game, Theo, with his first touch, volleyed the ball from 25 yards out, sending it soaring over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net. A 3-1 victory!
The Player of the Match award went to debutant Liam, who was flawless in the heart of the pitch, not putting a foot wrong all game.
Great start to the new league, well done team! Up the Blues!
